THE CAR FESTIVAL

 THE CAR FESTIVAL

The Car Festival at Puri is world-famous.

It is held in the month of Ashadha.

Thousands of pilgrims visit Puri to see the festival.

On the day of the festival the images of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are taken out of the temple and placed in three large wooden cars.

The cars are decorated with coloured cloth and drawn by pilgrims along the main road.

The images are taken to the Gundicha Temple.

They are carried back to the Jagannath Temple on Bahuda Day.

As the cars move along the road, people sing prayer songs and shout for joy.

There is a heavy rush on the buses and trains for the Car Festival at Puri.

Car festivals are held at many at other places in our country.
