Nearly six kilometers west of lake Chilka there is a village named Banpur.
It is my village and the birthplace of the late Pandit Godavari's Misra, a well-known poet, and leader of Orissa.
It is famous for the Bhagavati Temple.
The Salia flows south of Banpur.
It is a big village with a few big buildings and a large number of thatched houses.
We have a police station, a post office, three high schools, and a college here.
At the center of the village, there is a busy marketplace.
It is slowly growing into a town.
I shall always try to keep up the good name of my village.
